During the Victorian period cameos reached the height of their popularity as gems for the most important jewellery and up to 210 years old they were only made on agate or semi-precious stones until a sailor brought some sea shells back to Torre del Greco from his trip to Africa and America.
Here, some master engravers who worked on agates found that the shades of the types of shells delivered by the sailor resembled Cornelian and Sardonic agates and since then cameos are also engraved on Conchiglia Marina and exclusively in Torre del Greco.
It was here that the Di Luca family's experience was born, specialized in the production of cameos on shells for 3 generations, working with an ancient instrument or cutting tool, the burin.
In 2012, the company also launched the "Cameo Italiano" project to modernize the concept of cameo thanks to the support of 35 artists from Torre del Greco who were able to reinvent the design of these jewels by dissolving the boundaries between classic jewellery and current fashion.
At GoldItaly Cameo Italiano will bring the latest in the line with hand-engraved cameos, as well as the Charme collection, a fashionable and youthful collection with smooth lines and modern engravings, and Carousel, an explosion of colours that recalls the fantastic world of carousels.
Born Anne, inspired by classic and romantic iconography and reinterpreted with an imposing and involving temperament, and Sacred, collection of jewels with style details that recall the religious theme by combining devotion and fashion.
